about

Chapter 2 from Day of Embers' debut 9-part twisted RootsFolklore series is "Shepherd Song". Anchored in lushly fingerpicked guitar while delicately building vocals haunt the wind, you’re quickly hypnotized into peaceful relaxation, drifting like the weaving cello into times long gone. A simple Shepherd looks out to sea from the cliff's edge of the North Wales coastline - the edge of everything he knows, searching the horizon for a sign. He feels an overwhelming yearning for something he can’t quite comprehend.

One morning, that which awaited him will finally come to pass. Vocal harmonies wash around you like the ocean washes around the shepherd as he takes hold of the hand from his dreams. Shepherd Song reflects the calm before the storm, the spiritual stirring for anew and encapsulates that very moment in slow motion; the deep breath before stepping into the unknown. It is about being in that Shepherd's shoes, feeling the rain though finding faith in the light.

Face the rain today, for the sun will come tomorrow.

Underpinning Daryl’s smooth acoustic guitar and Dawn's ethereal vocals are 2 of the principal members of the Australian Session Orchestra, Daniel Lopez on Violin and Eleanor Streatfield on Cello.

lyrics

A lonely shepherd trying to find his way
I drift with the seasons tend to to my herd
Just like my father and his father too
But lately I feel a stirring for anew
A stirring for anew

These robes cast around me start to feel so strange
Wandering these hills I feel a yearning ablaze
A reoccurring dream, In her eyes a universe
When I hold her hand I have the whole wide world
The whole wide world is in my hands

Face the rain today, for the sun will come tomorrow
Be brave

Cliffs meet the sea waves against them crash
Rain falls from the heavens with beauty and wrath
Mountains surround me like a fortress made
Mist on the plains, restless heart today
Restless heart today

Dew turns to frost, then the first snow falls
Clouds surround the peaks, breathe my spirits call
Many hours i spend looking out to sea
I feel it in my bones soon you'll come to me
I feel it in my bones, you'll come to me
